Scholarship: SIDA’s Training on ‘Integrated Sustainable Coastal Development’

SIDA (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) is accepting applications from individuals from organizations (institutions, NGOs, private companies, local authorities etc.) who have a role in coastal planning and management for training program on Sustainable Coastal Development.
Main purpose of the training program is to teach participants about sustainable development as well as integrated coastal planning and management.

Participants of the program divided into five phases will first create a support group in their home organization working with a mentor. They will go to Sweden for the second phase (3 weeks period) to attend lectures, engage in skill development and go on site visits. On the third phase (3 months period), participants will plan for change via working with support groups, supervisors and other stakeholders. Forth phase (2 weeks) will be the one when participants will engage with each other as well as with their mentors, in conversations in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Theory, practical applications, case studies and related information from developing countries perspectives will be shared. The last phase (7 months) will be for the participants to implement their change plans.

At the end of the fifth phase, national presentations will occur where participants will share the results and challenges. Participants will receive training certificate once the final project change report is approved.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicant from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Kenya, Liberia, Mozambique, Myanmar and Tanzania will be given priority though all countries interested in implementing sustainable coastal development are eligible.
Applicants must certify English proficiency on the application form.
Applicant should hold relevant academic degree.
Applicant should be from the field that s/he has responsibility to implement change processes in the area of coastal management.
Applicant must be ready to attend the entire program from May 2014 to June 2015.
SIDA is working with Life Academy, Stockholm University and the program is organized by NIRAS and the School of Global Studies, University of Gothenburg in collaboration with the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association.
