The Irresponsible Giant

The Nigerian state is like a man who is highly respected in the eyes of the public. He goes out to top-notch restaurants  and bars, buy the most expensive food and drinks for himself and enjoy, wears expensive dresses and drives the latest cars. He attends important functions and interacts with other men of higher, equal and lower status as he.

Meanwhile, at home, his children are hungry, they go about begging their  neighbours for food, wear tattered clothes and their school fees aren't paid. The furniture in the sitting room are broken, utility bills aren't paid, his many wives and children are fighting amongst themselves.

Yet this man, the Nigerian state, goes about thumping his chest and calling himself a giant. He is indeed an irresponsible giant!

Invention, Innovation and Enterprise (part 1)

Back in my days at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, I came across two books that really gave me insights on the difference between Invention and Innovation and how they relate to entrepreneurship. The one, titled Innovation, by William Kingston, made a categorization of different creative types that drives society, and the other titled The Challenge of Innovation, by John Adair, tells of how ideas are converted into products and into profit through the combined efforts of certain characters. These books, in my opinion, are good reads and I strongly recommend them for anybody interested in knowing the nitty-gritty of Innovation.

Sustainable Energy is the Future

The world over, businesses and households are seeking for ways to reduce their energy expenditures and thereby switching over to more sustainable ways of powering their systems. The burning of fossil fuel and emission of carbon into the atmosphere are not only costly for businesses, the economy and environment, but are also viewed as unethical in our green economies of today. The need to change over from traditional energy systems to alternative energy sources has never before been so

10 Reasons Why People Look for Jobs

Although different people seek employment for varied reasons, the following are among the raison d'ter for their decisions

Days of Blackberry

These days of Blackberry
Of the Western funny panty
And tricky curly jerry
My sister’s turning scary
Quick to spread her thigh
To the dude paying high
While tomorrow she’ll cry
On her knees asking why
Forgetting her silly folly
While she was making nasty
And selling so hasty
The epitome of her beauty
Now she is a slave
To the articles she crave
Loathing all the rave
She wish she never gave

At The Junction of Nowhere

The title of this article has been deliberately chosen to draw attention to the problems entrepreneurs face in their quest to find  a silver lining in  the dark cloud of confusion that is usually associated with this challenging field of human endeavor. Another appropriate title for this piece would have been “The Entrepreneur’s Dilemma”. But I’d opted for ” At The Junction of Nowhere” because it sounds more creative, catchy, descriptive and unique.
